GAIL (India) Limited is India’s premier natural gas company, actively contributing to the development of Government of India’s vision of gas-based economy. As part of its efforts to expand clean energy access, GAIL is deeply involved in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) sector through its own networks and in collaboration with authorized CGD entities. Through its subsidiaries, joint ventures, and partners, GAIL supports the development and operation of CGD networks in multiple Geographical Areas (GAs) across India. These networks are aimed at providing piped natural gas (PNG) to households, commercial and industrial consumers, and compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicles.
GAIL operates over 16,421 kilometers of natural gas pipeline, forming the backbone of India’s gas transmission infrastructure. In alignment with the objectives of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), GAIL supports CGD development in areas connected or adjacent to its pipeline network.
Out of over 300 Geographical Areas (GAs) authorized by PNGRB in various bidding rounds, about 214 GAs lie in the vicinity of GAIL's pipeline network. This proximity provides a strategic advantage for timely and cost-effective gas supply to CGD entities across the country.
Samanvay Portal is a digital platform developed by GAIL to streamline the pipeline connectivity process for these CGD entities. It enables transparent tracking of requests, facilitates coordination at each stage of project execution, and ensures faster integration of CGD networks with GAIL's pipelines.
This initiative underscores GAIL’s commitment to operational efficiency, ease of doing business, customer support, and the larger mission of enabling sustainable and environment-friendly energy solutions for India.
